The Microbiology Service includes all the Specialty areas. We are a reference in several Microbiology fields We have trained more than 100 residents in the last decades With a unemployment rate of 0% nowadays

Training

We highly encourage making presentations, attending national and international meetings and obtaining the PhD degree. We have the scientific and logistic support from INCLIVA Research Institute

Stays

The training period comprises a total of 4 years, with the following distribution of functions:

First year

  • sample processing, Microscopy, sample satining and rapid detection of microbial antigens
  • Urinary tract and gastrointestinal infections
  • sexually transmitted infections

Second year

  • Respiratory tract infections
  • Bloodstream infections
  • Surveillance of multirresistant bacteria.
  • skin and soft tissue infection
  • Hepatitis, VIH and serology

Third year

  • Mycobacteria
  • Clinical Micology
  • Parasitology
  • Molecular biology
  • Virology

Fourth year

  • Quality control
  • Hospital service stays: Infectious diseases, Critical Care, Anesthesia.
  • External Stays
  • Time for research work or PhD

External stays

We encourage the possibility of a stay (period up to 4 months) in prestigious national and International Centers, which can provide advanced training in areas of special interest.

24h shift

The new interns carry out extended shifts (until 21:00) always supervised by trained staff The Service provides continuous microbiology service 24h/7days, with the direct supervision of both an intern and specialist staff

The Service colaborate with different centers and universities in order to participate in the training of students

Quality

Quality control

The Microbiology Service collaborate with the monthly and quarterly quality control of the Bacteriology, Serology, Parasitology, Mycology, Mycobacteria, Virology, Molecular Biology and Viral Load Areas carried out by the SEIMC Quality Control system.

Annual Antimicrobial susceptibility report

The Microbiology Service is part of the Antimicrobial Use Optimization Programs (PROA) of the Hospital. We annually prepare the Bacterial Sensibility Report (BIMic) of the Clinical Malvarrosa Health Area.
